HOW TO CONVERT THE HOOD WITH HOOD/HARNESS®

Head cover is an essential piece of tactical gear. Without it, you’ll have difficulty thinking straight when the going gets tough. Luckily, you can always have head cover gear at hand, seamlessly so if you’re wearing our tactical jacket with the Hood/Harness® system.

WHAT IS THE HOOD/HARNESS® SYSTEM?

The Hood/Harness® system is our design element that keeps the hood perfectly positioned on your head. Once you’ve got the Hood/Harness® system positioned with the hood it is always in place and ready to mount.

The result is completely unhindered views of your surroundings while at the same time shielding your eyes from falling rain and snow.

1. HOW TO POSITION THE HOOD/HARNESS® SYSTEM

The harness works by wrapping around your head and connecting to the inside of the hood at multiple attachment points. This permits the hood to precisely follow your head-and-neck movements, thereby keeping it away from your eyes.

SEPARATE THE HOOD/HARNESS® FROM THE HOOD

Locate the four Velcro®-covered straps attached to the flaps inside the Hood/Harness® hood and separate them.

PUT THE HOOD/HARNESS® ON

Flip the Hood/Harness® onto your head and pull the bill down to about the middle of your forehead, to just above your ears, and midway to the back of your head. If it droops to your neck, tighten the straps and recheck the fit.

ADJUST THE WIDTH

Adjust the two Velcro® straps at the rear of the harness to closely fit around your head, but not so close a fit that you have trouble taking off the hood or putting it back on.

(OPTIONAL) POSITION THE FLAPS FOR JOINING

Lift the four flaps on the Hood/Harness®.

(OPTIONAL) JOIN THE FLAPS

Pull the hood over your head, feel around inside the hood to find its Velcro® straps, grasp the straps, and press them onto the flaps of the Hood/Harness®.

FINE-TUNE THE ALIGNMENT

Finely adjust the connection of the four Hood/Harness® flaps and the hood’s Velcro® straps. If you skipped optional steps 4 and 5, align the harness’s bill and the hood’s visor, then connect the straps and flaps.

2. HOW TO FOLD THE HOOD/HARNESS® HOOD

There are probably as many different ways to convert a hood to a collar as there are foldaway hoods. With the Hood/Harness® it’s easy. Follow the steps below to convert the hood to a collar that won’t be bulky, tight, or uncomfortable.

STRAIGHTEN THE JACKET

Lay the jacket on a flat surface. Spread out both the hood with the Hood/Harness®, then release the cords on each side of the hood and the collar. Straighten the hood’s visor (its stiffness comes from a bendable wire sewn into it).

STRAIGHTEN THE HOOD/HARNESS®

Fold the Hood/Harness® along its length and align the hood visor with the harness bill.

FOLD THE HOOD IN HALF

Smoothen the fabric and fold the hood in half in the direction of the collar.

FOLD THE HOOD IN HALF A SECOND TIME

Fold the hood once more, just as you did in the previous step. Make sure none of the Velcro® straps are rolled up within as you proceed.

FOLD THE HOOD INTO A COLLAR

Starting at the base of the collar, fold the hood into the collar. Push the ends of the hood into each end of the collar.

CLOSE THE FLAPS

Now use your hand to smooth the hood along the entire length of the collar. Pull the flaps over and fasten the buttons on each side of the collar.

3. FOLDING THE HOOD/HARNESS® HOOD

You can always just roll up your tactical jackets hood to pack it away. But if you like to keep your gear tidy here is another option on how to do it.

4. HEAD PROTECTION FOR PERFORMANCE

Having the Hood/Harness® system hood attached to the jacket provides the advantage of always having it at hand. In case you’re caught in a sudden downpour just pull it out from the jacket’s collar and pack it away when no longer needed.

MORE FUNCTIONALITY

A good quality hood adds more functionality compared to a cap. How? By providing more heating efficiency. And, when constructed in combination with materials that protect against rain and wind, it will also provide excellent body vapour management and amplified heat on cold days.

MORE PROTECTION AGAINST COLD

A hood covers not only your head but also your neck, so the cold can’t penetrate.

FACE PROTECTION

Rain won’t get on your face or in your eyes if you’re wearing a stiffened peak hood over the firm bill of the Hood/Harness® system.

LESS WEIGHT

A hood lets you move lighter since it frees you from the need to carry an extra piece of clothing (i.e., a cap). It also frees you from the worry of losing your head protection, either because you misplaced it or the wind blew it away.

MOVES WITH YOUR HEAD

We developed the integrated Hood/Harness® system specifically to keep the hood in place so that no matter which way you turn your head the hood follows it precisely.

UNHINDERED SIGHT

No more fiddling with head protection positioning in order to see where you’re going. Our hooded jackets with the integrated Hood/Harness® system enable the hood to precisely follow your head as it turns, tilts, and cranes so you can keep your line of sight clear at all times.
