HOW SHOULD TACTICAL PANTS FIT

The best-fitting tactical pants move as your body moves. They don’t restrict your range of movement or get in your way. Tactical pants that fit right should also be comfortable, offer plenty of protection, and deliver optimal performance no matter your op.

But how can you be sure the pants you’re wearing are indeed the best fit for you?

FINDING THAT PERFECT FIT FOR YOU

Our tactical pants have an anatomical cut designed for the unique needs of operators. As well, we employ a mix of materials that give you the best of both worlds—comfort and ruggedness. On top of that, we added reinforced knee-pad pockets for reliable protection at all times.

However, in order to get the most out of your UF PRO tactical pants, you need to ensure they fit you like a glove. Only then can you benefit fully from their anatomical design, ensuring that they stretch and move with you while also providing appropriate protection where needed.

To check the fit of your pants, look at their rise, waist fit, length, and knee-pad position as outlined in the steps below.

1. CHECK THE RISE.

The pants’ rise refers to the distance from the crotch seam between your legs to the top of the waistband. All UF PRO P-40 Tactical Pants have a mid-rise design. This means the waist is meant to rest between your navel and hip bones while fitting neatly in the crotch area.

JUST RIGHT

Your P-40s fit just right if the waistband sits below your navel while still covering your hip bones.

TOO HIGH

If you can pull your pants up over your navel, that’s too high.

TOO LOW

If your pants slide down and expose your hip bones, that’s too low.

2. CHECK THE WAIST FIT.

A good waist fit ensures your pants stay in place and don’t slide down while under load. The waistband of your P-40s should be snug, but not overly tight. Also, the elastic material along the sides should not be fully stretched when you’re in an upright position: you’ll need that extra stretch so you can sit, bend, or squat comfortably—try it.

The waist fit can be measured as the abdomen circumference at the appropriate rise. In our sizing system, that’s reflected in the first number (before the slash).

JUST RIGHT

You should be able to place the flattened palm of your hand comfortably between your abdomen and the waistband.

TOO BIG

If there’s enough space to fit a full fist between your abdomen and the waistband, then the pants are too big at the waist.

TOO SMALL

If you can’t fit your flattened palm or if the elastics on the sides are fully stretched while you’re in an upright position, then the pants are too small at the waist.

3. CHECK THE LENGTH.

Choosing the correct length in tactical pants will help ensure that you have good freedom of movement as you bend at the knees or waist. In these instances, your pants will rise up higher due to the movement. If your pants are too short and you attach them to the boot hook, they might impede your movements. If they’re too long, they might get in your way.

In our sizing system, the pants’ length refers to the length of the inseam and is reflected as the second number (after the slash).

JUST RIGHT

Your P-40s fit just right when they reach down to about one or two fingers’ distance above the floor while you’re in a standing position and either barefoot or in socks.

TOO LONG

If your pants touch the floor or fold over excessively, they’re too long.

TOO SHORT

If your pants barely cover the ball of your ankle, they’re too short.

4. CHECK THE KNEE PAD POSITION.

All our tactical pants can be upgraded with reliable knee protection and are designed with an anatomical pocket for knee-pad inserts. This ensures reliable protection for your knees without straps or unnecessary adjustments, making it easy and comfortable to wear your knee protection at all times.

To ensure your knee pads are in the right position, place them inside the holder pocket and kneel down at a 90-degree angle.

JUST RIGHT

When kneeling, about ¼  of the knee pad should cover the front of your knee and be protecting your patella. The remaining ¾ of the knee pad should cover your shin and be protecting the ball of your tibia.

TOO HIGH

If, when kneeling, the majority of the knee pad covers the front of your knee, or if it does not reach down your shin and protect the ball of the tibia, then the knee pads are positioned too far up.

TOO LOW

If, when kneeling, the knee pad mostly (or only) covers your shin without going over your patella at the front, then the knee pads are positioned too far down.
